Thirteen long years after the first movie, Nia Vardalos and most of the original cast returns for a new wedding, and this time it promises to be an even bigger one!

Paris, teenage daughter of Toula and Ian, is causing trouble and looking at universities to escape her overprotective family. At the same time, the couple has to deal with both their marital problems and Toula’s parents’ problems. Since their marriage certificate was never signed, they were, therefore, never married. The family is still pretty much like the one we all enjoyed in the first movie, smothering and with no sense of boundaries.

Vardalos announced she was working on a new script last year, but the sequel has been on the works ever since the first movie came out and was an instant hit, though it never reached number one on the box office. Vardalos said, “Now that I’m experiencing motherhood, I’m ready to write the next chapter of my family story”, and unlike the first movie, she will not be directing this one. The directing gig went to Kirk Jones, responsible for “Nanny McPhee” and “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”.

Though most of the cast returns, there are also some new additions, such as actors John Stamos (Full House, ER) and Rita Wilson, who is also a producer along with her husband Tom Hanks.

The movie hits theaters next year, on March 25th, 2016!

Have you been waiting for a My Big Fat Greek Wedding sequel? Or has it been too long since the first one to do it now?
