For more than two decades, Dr. Kam has served in the field of physics and radiology. He obtained a Bachelor of Art in Physics and Chemistry, summa cum laude, from Cornell University, a Master of Art in Physics from Harvard University, a PhD in Physics from Harvard University and a Doctor of Medicine with honors from the University of Illinois. He is certified in vascular and interventional radiology, in neuroradiology, and in diagnostic radiology through the American Board of Radiology. In pursuit of a career that would help others and contribute something good to the world, Dr. Kam began his career as a research associate in the department of electrical and computer engineering at the Beckman Institute with the University of Illinois. He went on to complete an internship and a residency and a fellowship in radiology at the University of Pittsburgh departments of medicine and radiology, respectively. Throughout his career, he has held several professorships and fellowships. Today, he serves as an attending physician at Neurointerventional Associates.
Outside of his practical work in the field, Dr. Kam has contributed his expertise to book chapters and articles in professional journals about neurointerventional surgery, radiology, magnetic resonance in medicine, and interventional radiology. Among his many professional achievements, Dr. Kam is credited as the first to measure the lifetime of a metastable state of molecular nitrogen, as well as the first to conduct measurements on electron stimulated desportion of hydrogen and deuterium from silicon. He also participated in clinical trials of a device drug combination, percutaneous hepatic perfusion, which is now used in Europe to treat primary and metastatic cancers in the liver. For his accomplishments in the field, he has received awards and honors from various institutions such as the Sandra Hamdani Memorial Award, the Radiological Society of North America Resident Research Award, and the American Institute of Chemists Award. In addition to the many fellowships he has received, Dr. Kam was also named in the Guide to America's Top Radiologists and in the Leading Physicians in the World.
In order to stay abreast of developments in his field, Dr. Kam has maintained affiliation with the American Medical Association, the American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, the Society of Interventional Radiology, the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the American Physical Society, the American Society of Neuroradiology, the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery, the European Society of Neuroradiology, the American Heart Association, and the American Stroke Association. Looking toward the future, Dr. Kam plans to return to academics in addition to his practical responsibilities at his private practice.
