Irina Eliav and Bella Benjamin, two educators who have spent most of their careers working with children with autism and other language impairments, have joined forces with the former Chairman of the Department of Puppet Design in the College of Theater Arts Odessa, Ukraine, and gifted illustrator, Oleg Moysa, to release the newest book in their informative series, “Ask How, Know How Paper is Made”: an insightful glimpse into the process of converting trees into paper.
“Being mothers ourselves, we often faced questions from our own children that led us to put together our ‘Ask How, Know How’ book series,” the authors said in a joint statement. “Our books have beautiful illustrations and simple, yet precise, explanations of how things are made. This series was created to help young children understand concepts through visualization.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, the Ask How, Know how series draws on the authors’ collective teaching experiences to focus on what is most pertinent to young readers and their impressionable minds in order to convey the most amount of knowledge in the simplest fashion.
“Reading is the most crucial part of your child’s life,” the authors continued. “It enhances language development, expands lexicon, develops imagination and creativity, and increases attention span. Most importantly, it teaches your child to love to learn.”
Paired with vivid illustrations provided by Oleg Moysa, the book brings readers along the step-by-step journey of the conversion from tree to paper, engaging young readers by offering visual aids in addition to the informative text.
“At the end of the story, work on sequencing activity,” the authors suggest. “Sequencing is the process of putting objects, ideas or events in a logical order. This strategy is used in everyday lives when kids stack rings, make sandwiches or when adults plan trips or simply talk about their day.”
For those wish to bring this to a classroom, or into the home of a young reader, “Ask How, Know How Paper is Made” can be purchased at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
