Dr. Maria Nicolodi has worked as a researcher and General Secretary of the University Centre of Florence – Florience University since 1999

With more than 30 years of medical research to her credit, Dr. Nicolodi has worked as a researcher and General Secretary of the University Centre of Florence – Florience University since 1999, the head of the primary pain and headache unit with the Oncology Center of Florence since 1995, the founder of FOND since 1991 and an independent pharmacology researcher since 1987.

Previously, she has held the positions of president for the Foundation for the Prevention and Therapy of Primary Pain in 2003, contract researcher for the University of Florence from 2001 to 2002, and contract neurology professor at the University of Siena from 1999 to 2000. From 1997 to 1998,s he served as a contract professor of psychiatry at the University of Catania. Likewise, Dr. Nicolodi has been a seminar speaker for such academic institutions as the University of Florence, University of Catania, University of Cagliari, and the University of Pavia.

Before embarking on her professional path, Dr. Nicolodi pursued an education at the University of Florence, graduating with a focus on medicine and surgery in 1984. She continued her academic efforts with a Doctor of Philosophy in pathophysiology and pain therapy in 1993 at the University of Rome. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Nicolodi concluded her studies at the University of Pavia in 1994, earning a specialization in neurology.

Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Dr. Nicolodi has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She contributed to the International Pain School at the Medicine University of Chile as an international consultant since 1997. Holding multiple international patents, she has notably developed and invented a number of therapies for chronic headaches, primary fibromyalgia, and chronic cluster headaches. Dr. Nicolodi found much success with her written works as well, having authored over 300 articles for esteemed journals and edited two congressional proceedings.

In addition to her primary vocation, Dr. Nicolodi remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. She has previously maintained involvement with the Sicuteri Nicolodi Foundation for Primary Pain Prevention and Therapy as a founding member, vice president and president. Dr. Nicolodi was also active as a member of the Italian Society for the Study of Headaches, the International Headache Society, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the World Federation of Neurology, and the European Academy of Neurology.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Nicolodi has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. From 1990 to 1993, she was recognized as a fellow of the University of Florence. She was presented with the Physician's Recognition Award, a Fitness Grant from the Accademia dei Lincei in 1987, the Enrico Greppi International Junior Prize from the International Headache Society in 1989, a Grant from the National Council of Research in 1994, and the Enrico Greppi Price from the International Headache Society in 1995. Most recently, Dr. Nicolodi was selected for the Migraine Trust International Prize in 2006.
