I am particularly pleased with the university’s retention numbers. I believe they show that our students are pleased with the quality of their education and the overall campus experience. That’s a tribute to the hard work of so many individuals at Freed-Hardeman.
HENDERSON, Tenn. September 19, 2018
Enrollment at Freed-Hardeman University for the 2018 fall semester has set university records, according to FHU President David Shannon. The undergraduate total of 1,548 is an all-time high. The fall-to-fall retention rate for first-time freshmen rose to 82 percent and for all students to 86 percent.
Total enrollment for the semester stands at 2,038, an increase of 66 over last year and the second highest in the school’s history. The number of undergraduate students increased by 77 for a 5.2 percent increase. The university showed growth in dual enrollment, continuing students and in both full-time and part-time students. Enrollment in the graduate program is 490.
“I am particularly pleased with the university’s retention numbers,” Shannon said. “I believe they show that our students are pleased with the quality of their education and the overall campus experience. That’s a tribute to the hard work of so many individuals at Freed-Hardeman.”
Dave Clouse, vice president for community engagement, added that outside entities are also noticing the quality of the FHU educational experience. “We recently learned the university had moved up seven spots to number 39 in the 2019 rankings of Best Regional Universities, according to U.S. News and World Report. FHU was also ranked 10th in the Best Value Schools, Regional Universities category.”
At the Dickson location, head count went up 10.6 percent and credit hour production increased by 405 hours, a 25 percent jump. The Memphis location showed a slight decline due to dual enrollment courses not being offered there this fall.
Unrelated to this fall’s numbers but also highly significant, the university’s six-year graduation rate climbed to 60 percent, an all-time high.
