With more than 55 years of professional experience, Mr. Leonard has been an academic and workforce advisor with Lone Star College since 2011, having been an adjunct professor from 2003 to 2010. Prior to obtaining these roles, he held a number of positions with Exxon Mobil, including infrastructure services manager from 1998 to 1999, senior systems supervisor in 1996, supervisor of network and telecommunications from 1994 to 1996, and systems supervisor from 1990 to 1995.

From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Leonard was a supervisor of application development, and from 1984 to 1985, he was strategic systems planner. He previously served as a group supervisor for applications support from 1982 to 1984, a staff systems analyst from 1979 to 1981, a distribution specialist from 1975 to 1978, and a marketing analyst from 1970 to 1974. Earlier in his career, he was a production planner with Tennessee Eastman Company from 1966 to 1968, having been a summer trainee in 1963.

Mr. Leonard began his career as a student at Purdue University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1964. He continued his studies with the University of Kansas, earning a Master of Science in business in 1970. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and the former president of the Quarterback Society. An active leader in his community, he has also served as a lay reader with the Episcopalian Church of the Good Shepherd and the Forrest Lake Townhome Association.

Throughout his career, Mr. Leonard has been recognized for his contributions, including having been recognized for excellence in Naval ROTC by the Chicago Tribune. He received the Exxon Quality Tiger Award in 1991. He has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
