HOUSTON, TX, September 27, 2018 — Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present James Grady Spears with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Spears celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Since 1975, Mr. Spears has been the owner and president of S.W. Tookie, Inc., and Tookie's Restaurant in Seabrook, TX. In the six years leading up to this role, he was a sales manager at Sunshine Biscuits, Inc., in Houston, TX. His first professional role was as an administrator at Child Health and Developmental Studies in Oakland, CA, from 1962 to 1969. His education began at Port Arthur High School. Perhaps his most important role was in his service in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1962.
When he was discharged, Mr. Spears was in California and decided to stay there in the Child Health and Development Studies. After a while, he decided on sales and moved back to Texas. From there, he decided he wanted to pursue a career in the restaurant business. He didn't anticipate these shifts in his career, but they have all built upon each other in such a way that he has all the skills he needs to successfully run his restaurant.
Throughout the years, Mr. Spears' civic involvement has been extensive. He is a member of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Clear Lake Convention Visitors Bureau. Furthermore, he is also a member of the Texas Restaurant Association, the Houston Restaurant Association, the Seabrook Association and the Old Seabrook Association.
For his many accomplishments in the restaurant business, Mr. Spears had his restaurant named Business of the Year and has been written about in numerous magazines, including Southwest Living and Texas Monthly. The restaurant became very well known and he has been featured in the book “America's 100 Best Hamburger Places” and on several television shows.
Aside from his business, he enjoys collectibles such as CDs and DVDs, fine art, antiques, listening to records and self improvement. Mr. Spears has previously been featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
