For more than 16 years, Ms. Poirier has fought hard for the rights of injured workers, practicing exclusively in workers' compensation law. Working hard to customize every case to the needs of her clients, she has represented cases involving occupational disease, workplace death, forklift and construction accidents, catastrophic injuries, chemical burns, spinal cord injuries, crush injuries, and total knee and hip replacements with genuine passion and unwavering honesty. Focusing on one single area of law, Ms. Poirier has become renowned as one of the leading female workers' compensation attorneys who treats her clients as if they were members of her own family, handling claims against such major corporations as Nabisco, CVS, Publix, Walmart and Vulcan.
Originally pursuing an education in medicine, Ms. Poirier initially earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from the University of Georgia before being motivated by her father, Douglas Morrison, and grandfather, Max Morrison, to attend law school. Continuing her studies at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis, she found the experience to be incredibly challenging and gratifying. Graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence, she found herself gravitating toward representing the underdogs, choosing to avoid representing major insurance companies and corporate institutions.
Ms. Poirier finds her attorney-client relationships beyond rewarding, as she still receives Christmas cards from clients she worked for over a decade ago.Ms. Poirier proudly recalls her case against Vulcan Materials Co., representing a client who did not speak English, who developed lung cancer as a result of his job duties. Though the employer attempted to push her client's claim to the statute of limitations for workers' compensation, Ms. Poirier brought the case to trial and obtained a significant judgement with a settlement over six figures.
A board member of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Atlanta Bar Association, Ms. Poirier is additionally affiliated with the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, the State Bar of Georgia and the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers. Utilizing her vast experience, she also contributes to her community as a committee chair for Morningside Elementary School and a member of the Friends of Children Healthcare of Atlanta.
