CUMMING, GA, May 29, 2019 — The Eden Alternative® announces the addition of Oaks at Hampton to the Eden Registry, joining hundreds of organizations around the world that are committed to improving quality of life and quality of care for the people they serve. The Eden Registry is an honor society and a supportive network of organizations committed to transforming care and improving the well-being of all involved in the care relationship.

“Culture change is the common name for a global initiative focused on transforming care as we know it,” explained Executive Director, Gail Lancaster. “Our entire team was inspired to shift its care practices and values in order to put the individual first.”

Working with employees at all levels of Oaks at Hampton, The Eden Alternative provided professional development training in person-directed care, an evolving process that honors the voices and choices of Elders and those working most closely with them.

“Achieving Registry Member status highlights Oaks at Hampton's focus on the unique needs, preferences, and desires of those individuals they support,” said Eden Alternative President & CEO, Jill Vitale-Aussem. Throughout this comprehensive Registry process, an interdisciplinary team of employees at Oaks at Hampton focused on core person-directed values that included choice, dignity, respect, self-determination and purposeful living.

“We embraced The Eden Alternative's multi-phased process that provides practices and training strategies that help create a vibrant, life-affirming environment where each person matters and everyone has opportunities for growth, regardless of age or abilities,” added Gail. The Eden Alternative promotes the belief that the most effective care happens when there is a reciprocal partnership between the caregiver and the care receiver. Just as in a family, close relationships develop as the Elders and their care partners make decisions together, such as what and when to eat, how to spend their time together, as well as other choices pertaining to the rhythm of daily life.

“We will continue to progress through three additional Eden Alternative Path to Mastery Milestones that will deepen our integration of person-directed care practices. It is something we all want for our loved ones and for ourselves,” Mrs. Lancaster concluded.
