LONDON – 01-04-2019 (PRDistribution.com) — This year, citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica are set to reap the benefits of the “Housing Revolution” – an ambitious programme that has been two years in the making. It was introduced by Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit following a series natural weather challenges that displaced thousands of residents.
There are a total of nine housing projects currently being developed: five in the East Coast, two in the West Coast and another two – in Roseau City. At the end of last year, the first 38 families received the keys to their new homes in the Bellevue Chopin Modern Housing Development. The latter is managed by Montreal Management Consultancy Establishment (MMCE) and encompasses 380 brand new houses. It aims to resettle 800 residents of Petite Savanne that had lost their homes to Storm Erika in 2015.
More resilient housing projects are being developed and abide by the Building Back Better (BBB) concept. The houses are modern and robust by design and all utility lines run underground. Taking a step further into keeping PM Skerrit’s promise to build “the world’s first climate resilient nation”, the houses rely on green energy, with solar water heating structures built within. Most of the housing projects will be ready for occupancy throughout 2019.
The scheme was made possible thanks to the small island’s successful Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme, making it the most prominent fully CBI-funded initiative known so far. Financial Times experts at the Professional Wealth Management magazine ranked Dominica as having the world’s best citizenship by investment programme in the latest CBI Index report. Investor immigration specialists echoed the FT-PWM study, forecasting Dominica as 2018’s most sought-after citizenship by investors worldwide.
