DETROIT, Oct. 25, 2017 () — The National American Arab Nurses Association (NAANA) announces that former U.S. congressman from Michigan, John D. Dingell will be presented the 2017 Angel of Mercy Award for his life-long support of the Arab American community and the cause of healthcare for all.

Mohamad Rustom, president of NAANA, said, “Mr. Dingell has been an icon in the Arab American community for years because of his staunch support of our community and for his fight for the rights of all Americans to receive affordable health care. We are honored that he accepted our invitation to attend and be recognized with our highest award. While we customarily recognize Arab American nurses, we also acknowledge the work of non-Arab American nurses and others who help or make a significant impact on the Arab American community.”

Mr. Dingell and Henry Ford Hospital Transplant Institute unit nurse Annette Feeney will receive the award at NAANA’s 6th annual banquet, held Thursday, October 26, at Byblos Banquets 7258 Chase Road in Dearborn, at 6:00 p.m. Beaumont Health is lead sponsor.

Bruce Nicely, RN, MSN, CPTC, chief clinical officer for Gift of Life Michigan will serve as keynote speaker. 

In addition to presenting the Angel of Mercy winner, scholarships for 2017 will be awarded to four nursing students.
