Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Bill Gausewitz was recently named chair of the State Bar of California’s Business of Law Section’s (BLS) Insurance Law Standing Committee (ILSC).

The BLS serves its members and the public through its substantive Standing Committees, including the ILSC, and its editorial board. ILSC members – who must be in practice for at least five years – participate in the creation of law and develop connections with other practitioners in the field. The ILSC is made up of members who are appointed for three- or four-year terms. The committee’s purpose is to bring together attorneys with insurance- related practices to discuss and examine developments in insurance law and to advise the Bar on any such developments that may affect insurance law practice. Historically the committee has included private insurance practitioners, in-house counsel, counsel for insurance industry trade associations, and lawyers from the California Department of Insurance.

Gausewitz is a shareholder in the firm’s Sacramento office. He has more than 20 years of experience drafting and backing California state legislation – particularly concerning the insurance and title insurance industries – and serving in a number of positions within the Legislature, including the U.S. House of Representatives, the California State Assembly (Republican Caucus), and the California State Senate (Republican Policy Office). His firsthand knowledge of the law and regulatory processes allows him to help clients seek necessary approvals from the Department of Insurance in all aspects of title insurance regulation. Gausewitz earned an M.A. (1981), J.D. (1979), and B.A. (1976) from UCLA.
