to come out of their condition of anaemia. In this program Merck will be supported by the not-profit organisation Doctors for You.
Under the first phase of the “Swasth Nari Sashkt Pariwar” program 5000 women from Lallubhai Compound, Mankhurd, Mumbai will undergo anaemia check and those found low on haemoglobin will be supported by Doctors for You over a four months period to take charge of their health and restore the haemoglobin levels. The NGO will focus on raising awareness on the harmful effect of low haemoglobin, improve understanding of the food and medicine supplements to restore haemoglobin and thereby encourage affected women to become anaemia free. An unique aspect of this initiative will be the skill development courses offered to those women who become anaemia free in the four months period.
“Women’s health tends to be ignored in many of our societies and this has resulted in a national problem of more than fifty percent of our women being anaemic. With this purposeful program “Swasth Nari Sashkt Pariwar” Merck aims to bring about a significant change by helping women take charge of their nutrition needs and thereby become healthy and contribute more to the family they nurture. We are very hopeful that we will have many success stories coming out of this initiative”, said Anand Nambiar, Managing Director, Merck India.
